Independent Film Festival Boston opens tonight! The Boston Herald did a nice piece on the fest and included RUBBERNECK: http://bit.ly/IILX8u
April 24th Great NEW YORK TIMES video interview with Alex Karpovsky re: RUBBERNECK and Supporting Characters.
Alex plays a very different kind of leading man in the latter. I loved this film, very funny, great performances. You can see short clips from each film in the video:
April 23rd
Wow. Tribeca has been so exciting. Will report more soon. Thrilled to share that RUBBERNECK received some great reviews from the NEW YORK TIMES, INDIEWIRE and TWITCH!
We have our second screening tonight at 9pm at the Village Cinemas in the East Village, can't wait! Tickets are still available for tonight, but our third screening on Saturday is sold out and only available on rush!
April 17th Filmmaker Magazine published an article about RUBBERNECK and its director Alex Karpovsky yesterday! Alex discusses the themes of the film, collaboration and more. Here's the link:
Also, filmmaking is not a cheap endeavor. You may already know this, but it bears repeating, with slightly different wording. Filmmaking is EXPENSIVE.
Given these truths, RUBBERNECK has started a KICKSTARTER campaign to help cover post-production costs. Every dollar helps, so if you can possibly chip in, that would be really awesome and much appreciated! Here's the link:
April 16th RUBBERNECK'S trailer is up! Yay! Some gorgeous shots of Boston and the story isn't given away (a pet peeve of mine when there is TMI). Oh, and I'm in it!
And tickets are on sale today at 11am for the general public and all specific and unique individuals who make up said general population.
April 14th
RUBBERNECK premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival in less than a week!
Yesterday, Indiewire published an interview with director/co-writer/lead Alex Karpovsky. Included was a short clip from the film, complete with a haunting score by composer James Lavino.
April 11th
Need snark? I just added a video to my audio/video page here on the website. In it, I play snarky Anchorwoman Teale McGrath, who has certain strong feelings about the Girl Scouts of America.
April 4th
RUBBERNECK is also an official selection of the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival! The film will screen there in late April.
March 29th

A good shoot for Microsoft. I had high status for one training module...and lower status for the next one..but happy to report I did stick up for myself by the end of the script.
March 23rd
A cool day - AMAZING weather, got callbacks for a feature and a commercial...and purchased two really cheap cute tops.

RUBBERNECK is also an official selection of the wonderful Independent Film Festival Boston! Yipeeee! I love this festival!
So EXCITED to share that Rubberneck (formerly known as The Big Ship) will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April!
I worked on and off this feature since fall of 2010 and I am so thrilled that it will first be seen at Tribeca and that I will finally get to see it!
It is one of the 22 films in their Viewpoints Program. "The 22 films in the 2012 Viewpoints program continue the Festival’s tradition of discovery with high-quality, edgy storytelling from around the globe."
February 19th
Yesterday I shot a scene on Jared Vincenti's feature called Day of Youth. I play a neurologist whole bedside manner leaves, oh, just a bit to be desired.
January 8th -
Happy New Year!
New year...new reel!
My new reel is up! Just go to the audio/video tab to check it out! More comedy in this one. (Meaning in my reel, but perhaps there will be more comedic moments in the new year as well. That would be cool. Yes, please, more awkward moments that are funny in retrospect in 2012!)
December 17th -
This past week was very rich. I had what I think is my last shoot day on Alex Karpovsky and Garth Donovan's latest feature (previously entitled The Big Ship - Title now TBD), did a fun training at a top hospital (I get to play both a terrible employee and then a super irked patient), shot a commercial for a lingerie store, then just found out that The Oblique Sector will play as part of the second screening program of the Red Rock Film Festival on Friday, Dec 30th - here are the details!

October 2nd -
There once was a film in Nantucket,
last weekend - it played in Pawtucket.
Saw a doc about Tibet
which I will never forget,
heard Ethiopian jazz, I dug it.
The film was Leaving Fear Behind, a documentary created by Dhondup Wangchen. He is currently in jail in China for creating the film.
"Wangchen, a Tibetan native, returned to his homeland to film the 25-minute documentary, interviewing Tibetans in the Amdo region on the recently exiled Dalai Lama, the Beijing Olympics and Chinese law. Wangchen was able to send footage out Tibet before being taken into custody by authorities." (Movie Maker magazine)
He has been sentenced to six years in prison. Amnesty International and Students For a Free Tibet are doing all they can to have him released. So sobering.
As for the festival, what generosity! They nourished us with soup, bread, and beer, gave us t-shirts, and we also got a chance to listen to Ethiopian jazz from the 70's and see some fun animated shorts by Kurt Snyder. My favorite short was Where Do Babies Come From?
So, all in all it was a very educational experience. I see the stork in a whole new way.
September 25th - It's an Oblique Weekend!
Last night, our film played at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival
and
at 3:30pm today, it will play in the Pawtucket Film Festival.
Also on the bill are two of Dave Wells' films (Screenplays by Wes Ford):
-The Life Smugglers
This is the story of two retirees who start running prescription drugs across the US-Mexico border to pay for a sick wife's medical bills.
and
-The Sneakers
Emily is struggling to get by, but she wants her daughter, Fara, to feel like all the other kids at school. But when Emily cannot afford new shoes for both of them, she must choose between her own needs and Fara's sense of belonging.
I play Emily.
Tickets are $10

Also excited to discover this morning that we will have been accepted into the 2011 Red Film Market at the Red Rock Film Festival in St. George, UT. The film market is aimed at industry, patrons and press.
Red Rock festival dates: November 10-14, 2011...hmmm..that's just when it starts to get cold on the east coast....bet it's just about perfect in Utah in November...hmmm.
September 12th- Bennington meets Babson: Fun and silly shoot for National Development. I played a hippie chick in a business suit. Grooooovy, baby.
September 2nd - Had the privilege of shooting another scene for Alex Karpovsky's The Big Ship. Loved the new scene, rich and powerful. Great experience.
September 1st - The Oblique Sector is now an Official Selection of the Pawtucket Film Festival in Rhode Island! We will play there on Sunday, September 25th. Yay!
August 20th - September is Independent Film Month in Atlanta. They have four different cool festivals including Shortsfest, Horror, DocuFest and its Underground Film Festival.
The Oblique Sector is now an official selection of The Atlanta Underground Film Festival! It will play late night as part of the Comedy Shorts Two program on Saturday, September 24th at 11:30pm.
August 19th -
Just booked an industrial and will play a hippie/psychic in a business suit. A very fun audition and looking forward to the shoot.
And realizing I am incredibly behind on my updates!! Will report on Nantucket Film Festival soon, it was an amazing experience, very rich. Stay tuned....
June 4th - what a lovely day! A shout out to the Nantucket Film Festival! They mentioned us in their June 3rd enewsletter:
"Make sure to check out the charming short film, The Oblique Sector, in our Short Films Program this year! Visit the official site before you see it on ACK." www.obliquesector.com
June 1st - Just finished up two additional shooting days for The Big Ship. Really enjoyed the new scenes, a great balance of humor and sisterly concern. Tuesday's shoot was in a gorgeous location, overlooking a lake/pond (a lond? a pake?). Though my scene required me to be repeatedly agitated, Mother Nature calmed me right down. Ideal summer temperatures make me one happy chick.
May 13th - Just booked a radio spot for White Plains Hospital!
April 28th - Here is our big news: The Oblique Sector is an official Selection of the Nantucket Film Festival!!! We are so excited! The amazing documentary Being Elmo will also be there, as well as Cars 2!
April 23rd - The Oblique Sector website is LIVE! We have a trailer, we have photos, and we have exciting news...that we will announce shortly. Suspense is good for you!
If you like what you see, "like" us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
April 13th - Just got word from director Alex Karpovsky that The Big Ship (the feature we shot last spring) is looking really good. AND he is going to expand my part! So, we will have some additional shooting days in early June, really looking forward to that!
March 29th - The Oblique Sector is finally finished! So excited and very proud of it. We immediately submitted it to the Nantucket Film Festival!
March 13th - Shot another iParty commercial and Wally, the Red Sox mascot was the star! Man, that guy can hula!!
March 2nd - Just found out that Interfaces will play this Friday at the Paramount Center as part of the ArtsEmerson film series at 7pm in Boston. The film will appropriately be paired with FACES by John Cassevetes.
February 1st - Booked another commercial! This time for Cox Communications. They are doing a series of spots, not yet sure if I will be part of a dream sequence or play someone having the day dream. Whatever the case, I will now dream of a world free from snow. We shoot on Friday.
January 28th - More fun with a green screen today. We shot a bunch of footage of our Oblique Narrator for the title credits of The Oblique Sector today, very fun.
January 21st - Kaspersky spot was really fun to shoot. We each shot in front of a green screen. My red shirt made yet another appearance and is now teasing my red sweater (which used to be the favorite) mercilessly.
January 14th - Just found out that I booked a commercial that shoots next Friday! It's for Kaspersky Lab's antivirus software. I liked the fun script that was provided at the audition. And politically speaking, I am definitely antivirus. This has always been true.
January 3rd - Spent a good few hours brainstorming on a feature script that we have been working on sporadically for the last year and a half or so. I am determined that we finish the script this year. I found that storming is quite tiring for my brain. Monsters vs. Aliens was a delightful remedy.
January 1st - Spent part of the day creating a parody of a parody. My husband and I are big fans of Big Love and Chloe Sevigny. We recently discovered the really funny videos of Drew Droege in which he plays a parody version of Miss Sevigny. We created our own version of this as a video thank you to our New Year's Eve party hosts. It felt great to start 2000 one one (one of our Chloe-isms) with a creative enterprise.
December 11th - A cool day of movie viewing! Saw The Fighter at a late morning matinée with friends, including Steve Barkhimer, who has a nice part in the film as an HBO producer who is filming a documentary about Dicky Eckland (played by Christian Bale). Fun fact, the man he is portraying is actually in the movie as well, playing Steve's camera man. Loved this rich movie, I cried and laughed and really enjoyed all of the various levels of this story.
Then I saw Tiny Furniture in the afternoon with some other friends, in which Alex Karpovsky (The Big Ship - see earlier posts) has a fun part as a broke famous-in-an- internet-kind-of-way artist guy. This movie is quirky and funny and quite a contrast on many levels from the gritty Fighter film.
December 9th - Got to see a cut of The Oblique Sector, it is looking really good! Now it just needs some color correction, foley work, credits and music. All things that I know very little about, but are grateful other people do!
October 6th - Last day of shooting for The Big Ship. Twas a very rainy day that made us feel like we needed an ark. Luckily, the decision was made to shoot what was supposed to be an outdoor scene, indoors. It was another fun day on set.
October 1st - PACKED day - commercial re-shoot at 7:30am, shot another scene for The Big Ship, and then met a casting director that evening. Also learned that editing of The Oblique Sector is moving along nicely!
September 23rd - Yesterday was one cool, wild ride. Woke up, checked email, learned that a lovely colleague had recommended me for a feature film - The Big Ship.
Checked spam folder (THANK GOD!) and discovered an email from director Alex Karpovsky (a filmmaker and actor who has created/worked on many amazing indie projects -his feature, THE HOLE STORY, earned him a short-listing for the "Someone to Watch" Independent Spirit Award and was described by Filmmaker Magazine as " Equal measures Woody Allen and Werner Herzog").
Alex asked if I could audition that morning and, if cast, could I shoot that day. Thankfully my answers were "yes!", so I scrambled and got myself to the audition, got cast and then immediately went to set.
Within a few hours we shot my first scene, involving a tasteful shower scene. Later that night we shot a tense scene with some police officers. It was very cool to work with Charlie Anderson again, who was serving as soundman.
It was a fun, exciting day, and I am really looking forward to shooting the remaining scenes in the next few weeks. The Big Ship is a Thriller and I can already attest that my limited exposure to the project has led to my adrenaline having a field day; I think that is a good sign.
August 30th - Entering a dimension of sight, sound, and silliness, there's a signpost up ahead for... The Oblique Sector(cue eerie music now).
Finished shooting The Oblique Sector - Episode One. This short is a quirky take-off on The Twilight Zone that I co-wrote with my talented husband and is being produced by the newly formed Albion Park Productions. So thankful for a great shoot, cast and crew!!
Up next...post-production and meetings about our next caper.
August 9th - Booked an ESL educational video with Nesson Media.
August 6th - Recorded additional radio ads for Toyota of Watertown.
August 5th - Filmed a web video for RSA Securities of EMC Corporation. I got to play a hip information security gal on a lousy speed date. Possibly this gig has made me a little more hip in things technical. Possibly.
July 29th - Just booked a voice over gig!
July 23rd - My long and short reels are online! Many thanks to the patient and talented Steve Stuart for editing them. Just click on the audio/visual tab and there they are!
April 24th - Recorded a voice-over spot for Lowell General Hospital's TeamWalk for CancerCare PSA - An impressive organization.
April 23rd - Onward and Upward is accepted to the Los Angeles Comedy Festival! It will screen on Friday, May 14th at the ACME Comedy Theatre in North Hollywood during a program of shorts from 730-930pm! Wish I could be there!
Life Without Green gets some nice press!
The pilot is endorsed by Ed Begley Jr.,an actor (love all of his work in the Christopher Guest films!!!) and environmentalist. He currently has a reality show about green living called Living With Ed on Planet Green.
"I am very impressed how you have managed to integrate environmental concepts into your show. Please continue to support a sustainable lifestyle and the health of the environment."
~ Ed Begley, Jr.
The Huffington Post:
"But what's unique about the pilot, which was screened at last weekend's Boston Film Festival, is its politically incorrect approach to that most politically correct of topics: going green."
~Heather Robinson
Jewish Women's Archive:
"The environmental backdrop in Life Without Green is what sets it apart. Part of the show's appeal is its use of humor to address the day-to-day challenges of "going green." For example, in a scene cut from the pilot, Rachel Singer's staff is setting up for a press conference. One of the characters is using environmentally friendly duct tape to hang a banner, which promptly falls because the tape isn't strong enough to hold it." (One of my favorite moments, BTW)
April 21st - Filmed another commercial for Toyota of Watertown.
April 10th - The Sneakers wins Best Student Short at the Cedar Rapids Film Festival! The director, Dave Wells, hails from Iowa and how fun for him to share the film with his friends, folks, and colleagues in his home state.
April 6th - Filmed a commercial and recorded a radio spot for Toyota of Watertown as their spokesperson. Twas fun to walk and talk through a showroom and NOT have to shout in typical car dealership style.
AND booked a promotional video for Ivy Insiders, a company that offers SAT prep classes and tutoring by Ivy League students. I will be playing a relieved mom.
March 15th - The Ides of March has been part of a remarkably good week!
Found out that Interfaces received the Award of Merit by The Indie. "The Indie recognizes filmmakers who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity."
AND The Sneakers was accepted into the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival!
AND Life Without Green was accepted into the Boston International Film Festival! This is next month- April 16-25th. LWG screens on Sat, April 17th! This festival accepts only 100 pieces out of 2000 entries, Team LWG is very flattered!!!
Feb 24th - Learned that The Sneakers will play at the Brattle Theatre, Cambridge, MA on Friday, March 5th at 9:30pm as part of the Boston Cinema Census festival. The program had this to say about The Sneakers: "Wells' portrait of a family of two with nothing beyond each other shows some of the best performances from this year's submissions." Yay!
Charlie Anderson's All Day Yeah will also be on the bill. He is the filmmaker who created the very funny Werewolf Trouble, which has played at a number of festivals.
Feb 23rd - Booked a Papa Gino's radio spot.
Feb 11th - The Superheroine Monologues receives nominations of Best New Play and Best Costumes by the Independent Reviewers of New England! Goooo spandex! (Full disclosure, I am perhaps the only cast member who did not don the spandex...but did have to trek through the Amazon in gloves, heels and a hat..)
Feb 6th - Found out that Interfaces will play on March 30-31st at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, Boston. It will be neat to see this on the big screen.
Jan 25th - Bumpits, here I come!
Booked an iParty commercial, which films next Sunday. This should be fabulous fun and hopefully we will make Austin Powers proud. The shoot is being done in the style of Rowan and Martin's Laugh In - think go go boots, corny jokes and random dance moves.
Jan 21st - the TV pilot, Life Without Green, is premiering tonight in LA at 8pm at the Bungalow Club:
The Bungalow Club
7174 Melrose Ave
LA, CA 90046
Jan 2nd - "A man always wants a woman who can either bake things or is a whore, and I am certainly not a whore." - Lois Lane in The Superheroine Monologues (by John Kuntz and Rick Park)
Delighted that The Hub Review named me as one of the Best Actresses of 2009 for my performance as Lois Lane in The Superheroine Monologues! This is one of the most challenging and fun roles I have ever had the pleasure to play.
It also cited the show itself as one of the best of 2009. Congrats to all!!
Dec 30th - EdgeBoston names The Superheroine Monologues as one of the best plays of 2009!
Dec 20th -The Boston Herald included The Superheroine Monologues as one of the "best and brightest" shows of the past year in Boston. A great way to end the year!
November 12th - The Sneakers screens at the Columbus International Film and Video festival and is awarded Honorable Mention. Yay!
Also this month...I shot two Filene's Basement commercials that aired in New York, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC markets. In one I am a rabid shopper cooing over bountiful bargains in a baby carriage. In the other I am a rabid pregnant shopper committed to bargain shopping come rain, come shine, come labor.
Oct. 22nd - The TV pilot, Life Without Green, (I play Melissa, the lead's BFF) screens in MA at the Somerville Theatre - 55 Davis Square, 7pm

Sept. 23rd - the TV pilot, Life Without Green (I play Melissa, the lead's best friend who does her darnedest to calm her down), screens in NYC at
White Rabbit, 145 E. Houston Street, New York, 7pm

The Superheroine Monologues begins its second run, after a fantastic run in April.
AND The Sneakers screens at the International Film Festival - Ireland.
August 28th - The Sneakers screens at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival and WINS Best Dramatic Short!!!
July 20th - Just found out that The Sneakers is a semi-finalist at at the Angelus Student Film Festival in Hollywood, CA.
July 29th - The Sneakers screens at the Woods Hole Film Festival! I was at this festival a number of years ago and loved the shorts I saw. Our film is paired with the documentary Luckey, which has gotten great reviews and looks to be heartbreaking and powerful.
